Default Complete smoking ban in UK

I support the banning of smoking around the globe.
It'll save the environment and health of non-smokers.
Smokers are an inconsiderate lot.
The only place they should be allowed to smoke is in their own homes.
And they should close all the windows and breathe in their own smoke.
Yes, that will save them some money too.

How about ban all vehicles that cause pollution also ?

This is a newsgroup about travel in Asia.

If you have an axe to grind about a unrelated issue which is a personal
hang-up, take it elsewhere.

Cheers,

I have no problem with smokers as long as they don't exhale.

Diesel vehicles cause pollution, but petrol vehicles with a catalyser
filter have almost zero pollution.

This goes to show just how uninformed you are. Todays diesels are over
99% clean. Fuel energy conversion for diesel is over 50%, for petrol
it is under 40%. Even with a CAT petrol pumps out massive amounts of
poison. If correctly maintained they would have lower emmissions, but
many drivers/owners are cheap charlies and do not take their cars to
the dealers for service. I have a Euro 10,000.00 diagnostic computer
to read and adjust the ECU (engine electronic control unit) on
vehicles in my regional control area. We have just won several tenders
for vehicle supply for green vehicles. Petrol engined vehicles could
not even match the lowest green requirement.

Your statement, todays diesels have over 99% clean exhaust, petrol
engines if maintained correctly with a CAT (as long as leaded petrol
has not put in) are about 70% clean. CO and CO2 being the main
culprits

That is perhaps a bit too optimistic an characterization about the
efficiency of contemporary catalyzers.

It all depends on what you regard as pollution.

Even perfectly setup diesel and petrol engines chuck out vast amounts of
carbon dioxide. That's what happens when you burn oil based fuels, even
clean oil. Carbon dioxide is what's supposed to be causing global warming. I
regard that carbon dioxide as pollutant.

I thought that this meant to a Asia travel newsgroup :-(

When the engine is warm, the catalyzer is supposed to efficiently reduce the
emissions of carbon dioxide. It is all different when one starts an engine
which has been idle for hours or days in subzero temperatures. Car must be
driven a few kilometers until the catalyzer begins to filter decently.
Naturally there are heating systems (typically electric) which keep engines
warm as if it was summer when outdoor temperatures are low as in Siberia.
This also improves the odds to ignite the engine in the first place (if
there is any life in car's battery, cold much discharge batteries).
