Raffles hotel in Singapore

I'm going to Singapore soon (been there once before and loved it) and
was wondering about the legendary Raffles hotel.
What's the deal about this hotel: why is it so famous?

Well, it is fancy for sure. It has hosted lots of distinguished folks and a
tiger was shot to death in it's pool room. Popularity is often popularity in
popularity's shake. Consider popular objects like Rolling Stones (old farts
playing for big audiences since 1960's), Madonna (good heavens!), mr. and
mrs Beckham (something quite unbelievable), Kokka Kolla, McDonalds, Ronald
Reagan, Ferrari in F1 (car is nothing but a pathetic wreck). Or outside
"Western landmarks", Islam and Allah (hundreds of millions of freaks
gathering on rugs bowing their forehead into dust). The Raffles is about the
same. There are millions of men playing guitar better than Keith Richards
and there are millions of actresses who are less of a catastrophe than
Madonna and there are millions of statesmen who are less senile than Nancy's
husband ever was.......
