Default Hotel Costs - 1 Couple / 1 Single

Hey! I'm curious as to how a hotel bill should be spilt when 1 married
couple and 1 single are sharing a room. Should it be 1/2 for the
couple and 1/2 for the single or an even split, 1/3 each?

I was the single and paid 1/2. Same on the car rental, too. You
wouldn't do that for a restaurant bill, tickets to an event, etc. Like
anything, it can be worked out however you want, but I think the
starting point would be that 3 adults are 3 adults, no matter how
they're related. Maybe "Dear Abby" has the "official" take on the
subject. :-)

When I travel with my brother and his wife, I pay 1/3.

1/3rd of costs. Anything else is ripping the single off!!

However, sharing a room in my opinion is being a cheapskate!

Well, being a cheapskate is all relative. If you've got the money,
spend it, and spend it at the Ritz. I'm not so lucky.
