I was impressed by how well oiled the whole service mechanism of housekeepers, foodservice and crew worked. As with other HAL ships, nothing looked shopworn. String Quartet? What String Quartet? I spent most of my time jammin' with the Caribbean pan band by the Lido Pool. The "Elton John" lookalike, tribute performer was quite convincing. Only I'm spoiled from hearing the Jazz styling of Miss Patti Austin (For Ella) on the inaugural cruise of ms Zuiderdam. I guess I'll have to wait for another inaugural cruise to hear that level of entertainment on a HAL ship. -- ________ To email me, Edit "xt" from my email address. Brian M. Just got off the Veendam's Northbound Glacier Bay Cruise.
Ship had just completed an 11 day dry dock and was still a work in progress. We had major engine problems and had to cut the last day of the cruise with a direct run to Seward from Glacier Bay. So much for College Fjord. They never did say what the problem was; but vibrations were bad enough to break one of the Dining Room Windows.
