did you give him a choice :-)

He's an intelligent man - presented with an obviously superior system,
he adopted it......

but visit a small-town diner and watch the patrons - most
of them (unless they have foreign accents!) _will_ do the 'switching' thing.

and if I went to the French Laundry?

Out of my price range.

Who is this "we"?

Why did you snip the poster's details?

Martin

Because all I am interested in is his subject line.

He's speaking for you, all Americans, allies, and aspirers.

Funny, I don't recall being asked if he could speak for me.....

America's like that.

NO! That's wrong! Do you say "Germany's like that." if one German says or
posts something stupid? Do you say, "Denmark's like that." if one Dane says
or posts something stupid? Then stop treating 301 million Americans as if
they are all the same. You are a bigot!

At the cost of people's lives? Allowing bureaucrats to arbitrarily
decide someone doesn't get care because it's "unfair" to others?

John are you simplistic? Do you not understand that is going on right now,
in the US and other countries? Get myelogenous leukemia---if you are over
50, you won't get the approved treatment which is a immune system bone
marrow transplant. If you are a smoker, do you think you will get that
heart transplant? That lung transplant? If you are an alcoholic, do you
think you stand much of a chance of being first in line for that liver
transplant?

Yes, I have dealt with them for years and have never had a problem.
Others may have, but I and my family have never had one. And, in any
case, I have not said that the US system doesn't have problems, but
quite the opposite. That, however, does not have anything to do with
others also not having problems and, while rather not having to choose
at all, will take dealing with issues like this with a private company
than a government. And bean counters don't make these decisions
anyway. It's medical staff at those companies.

Well, you're wrong again. I personally know two people who cannot get
operations sanctified by Workers' Comp because the insurance people told
them they have to lose a certain amount of weight before they can get the
surgery.

I shake my head at your naivete, really!

yeah, I know. BTW, on one of the other things we have US/Euro flame
wars on, "switching" when eating. I was sat opposite some Americans
the other day and I remembered that flame war, so I looked. They ate
exactly the same as me, well they didnt spill as much, or drink as
much, and they talked too loud, but you know what I mean. I'm gonna
see how Homer Simpson eats and if he doesn't switch, I'm going to
refuse to believe it exists. My Texan friend doesn't do it either.

One of these days, Mike, you'll have to visit the US and see for yourself.
Yes, there are those who don't switch (my US-born husband eats UK-style)
but visit a small-town diner and watch the patrons - most of them (unless
they have foreign accents!) _will_ do the 'switching' thing.

Don't you understand that the only people in the US who switch hands while
eating are right-handed? If "most patrons" are switching, it's because they
are right-handed, not because they think it is a superior thing to do!

That wouldn't have been terribly diplomatic, would it?

Not from the point of view of many people in America.

Remember, sickness is God's punishment, being poor is a sign that you are
evil.

Now, that's just ignorant bigotry speaking. You sir, know nothing of the
people in America. Nothing at all.

America's like what? I was just talking about my family. Another
well informed libeller.

Then, you should have put it in the subject line, such as: "MY FAMILY
doesn't want..." instead of making it look as if you were speaking for 301
million people.

without ever having been there, I'm drawn to the conclusion that NY is
about as like Mississippi as Bath is like Napoli. But generalisation
and **** taking is more fun. Tx is texas right? Funny story from my
texan freind, she was in Texas with Londoner husband, waitress says to
him something along the lines of (I cant do texas) "owlll jeez honey,
aw wish aw had an accent, y'all" .
