No one should take public opinion that seriously.

Republicans have been preaching doom and gloom about Social Security
since George Bush tried to privatize it in 2005 and that undoubtedly
explains why so many people are worried about receiving their
benefits.

It's been an inevitable problem since long before then. When it was
set up, there were many paying into the system for each beneficiary.
It will be about three before too long. The system is unsustainable as
it is currently structured.

Social Security needs some changes, but they're not major enough to
justify destroying the program or to justify telling people they will
never receive Social Security benefits.
