Default LAX-HNL Group Poll

Hi;

I usually dish out advice to the group, but now I need some! I am going to
HNL from the LA area on July 16 (a Friday) and unfortunately have no date or
time flexibility with the outbound. The return can be the following Friday,
plus or minus a day.

The best fare I am finding is around $600RT on AA. Carriers like HA and TZ
are only a few bucks cheaper and AQ is way more expensive. Think I should
go for it, or wait?

I am willing to burn AAdvantage miles (Hawaii routes are often kept by the
airlines as a "mileage sink"). There is only one Business Class award seat
available, and I need two. Y seats are unavailable. Does anyone know if AA
makes more award seats available if it looks like seats will go unsold? If
they do, how far in advance of the date do they typically do this?

Many thanks; ideas and opinions welcome!

FWIW, AA (and a few other airlines) has been running FC sale fares on
the lower 48-HNL route. Would you believe JFK-HNL for $1,100 r/t in FC?
This sorts of makes elite flyers buy FC tickets instead of burn miles!
