Default Wooden Knitting Tools TSA legal or not?

My wife knits using wooden or plastic needles. They are typically a pair of
wooden shafts about 1/4" to 3/8" in diameter and about 15" long with very dull,
but somewhat pointed ends. She would like to use these to pass the time during
a 14 hour trip from Chicago to Beijing, China. I doubt the x-rays would spot
these in the bottom of a carry on bag, they being low Z material...BUT are they
TSA legal? Would a United flight attendant be inclined to confiscate them if
she got them on board?

The TSA has a list of things that are allowed and prohibited he

It says that knitting needles and crochet hooks are permitted in
carry-on bags. It doesn't specify any types.

In the UK Any sort of Knitting needles is not allowed. Wooden ones will
still show up on the x-ray screen..... just a matter of if the operator is
eagled eyed enough to see something sharp. Being long and pointed, he'd
still pick it up

I don't think this is going to hurt them on their flight from US to
China, but I don't see the big deal in the UK. After all, they permit
bottles of liquor and I suspect far more people have used broken bottles
for weapons than knitting needles.
