Athens restaurants recomendations?

Hi,

I just learnt today that I have to travel to Athens for work in the next 5
days. This is my first time to Greece and I have only a few days to do any
research on my own, so I decided to ask here right away.

I will have two nights free for dinner and am looking for recommendations
for where to eat - I want to avoid the touristy restaurants and stick to
places that are popular among locals. I would prefer places close to the
Acropolis Hill as that is where my hotel is located.

If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

(PS: I will have just one day free for sightseeing - too little time and
too much to see so what are the 2 or 3 that I should not miss?)

Hi,
There's a little hole-in-the-wall place at the corner of Voulis and
Koudrou that is extremely good. You'll have to wait for a table, but it's
worth it. The oil! The Oil!

Then on Prytaneiou, there's a place that has a dark green verandah right
on the street. They bring around a tray with about 10 dishes on it for you
to choose. The food is great and cheap! I can't remember the name.

There are all kinds of places in the Plaka that will try to hustle you in.
I don't trust them, but I'm sure some of them have good food. Ask for
recommendations at your hotel.

Names of streets and places are impossible to remember because the names
are spelled several different ways, according to the writers idea of
transliteration.

The restaurants in Psiri district have a very high reputation, but we
didn't get to eat there.

Gigantes (butter beans in a tomato sauce with a touch of cinnamon and
cloves), horta vrasta (boiled greens with oil and lemon) were 2 of our
favorites.
