So Richard Branson doesn't qualify because he knows what to do with
his money like building hot air balloons and speedboats.

Correct.

so to be rich you have to also be idle by your definition?
(I'm sure Branson has loads of money he is *not* spending on his
many projects).

The U.K. economy wouldn't even make a downpayment on Tampa, either.

LOL That's your last ditch argument is it? My dads car is bigger
than your dads car :-)

Mike, we should probably ease up on him (yeah, right!). Apparently he
wants to read about the civilzed world (see Newsgroups and then we go
and treat him 'badly'! Shame on us!

IMHO M doesn't mind what we say as long as we argue.

No, it's a reply that deliberately uses the same flawed reasoning, for
purposes of illustration.

OK, so if it had been said that the cost of the civil list is a
small percentage of the UKs income from tourism you would have
been quite happy. (I have no idea what the numbers are, before
you ask).

How do you get "about twice as many" ansd "nearly all"
from those figures?

The population of Europe is around twice that of the U.S. The
population of Canada doesn't amount to much, and Mexico is part of the
Third World and skews the numbers. Almost all the real money in North
America is in the United States.

Ah, so you meant a higher proportion, rather than more. A completely
different kettle of fish.

And if Europe has aound 32% or the world's rich, that leaves a 68% for the
RotW. Even if we ignore other countries where there are also rich people, I
think you're overworking your imagination to suggest that 68% is "nearly
all".

be so simple that we couldn't.

The government is borrowing a lot. In fact, on a per capita basis, the
major part of every American's debt is his share of the national
government debt.

The American debt is now so big that most Americans cannot even figure
out how to say the number.

It is common sense. You cannot keep borrowing indefinitely. Sooner or
later America will have to pay off the debt, or at the very least,
stop increasing it. That means massive cuts and tax rises. The
American government will have no choice but to raise the money from
the people. So the debt effectively belongs to them. Of course, they
won't come round with a baseball bat and two big mates to remove your
share. But just wait, they WILL get the money off you through tax and
cutting services. There is no other way.

No, that is how Europe is _today_.

Europeans like the idea of everyone remaining at his proper station in
life. They even impose the restriction on themselves; they feel
themselves "traitors" of a sort if they become too successful without
having the necessary family ties and old-school buddies, and they work
to sabotage the success of anyone else who steps out of line in this
way.

You seem to know a lot more about "europeans" than the people who
have lived there all their live. Please enlighten us because the
world I see around me doesn't really match with reality according
to the all-knowing Mxsmanic.

Indeed, your ideas about Europe sound a lot like how it used to be
200 years ago. Not anymore, mang.

A quite similar proportion to that in North America in fact

That would mean there are about twice as many in the U.S. (where almost
all of them live).

Wait a minute. If rich folk from Europe move to the US and then we
discuss the proportions in our country versuss their country-of-origin,
that sorta throws the stats out doesn't it?
