Default Time to Whine

On November 15th, we attended a luncheon and tour of the Radiance of the Seas,
hosted by Peter and Judy Berlin. On the same day, we boarded the Maasdam and
enjoyed a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. I took lots of pictures and they
turned out great.
During my attempt to load them onto my computer, the picture card was
somehow corrupted and all was lost. I had great shots of Peter and Judy
Berlin, Steve Sykes, Cindy and Grant Simon, Pam Lome, Sunny and
Bernie, Lee Lindquist and the gorgeous Barbara, and several others.
We bought a couple of pictures on the Maasdam, but I lost all the ones
from my digital camera. Sadly, I had also taken pictures of our
granddaugter in the process of trying on wedding gowns.
I have no idea what would cause the error message that I got on my
camera, nor why all my pictures disappeared.
Did anyone else take pictures on the Radiance that day?

All may not be lost, I have seen programs mentioned that will recover
corrupted files on compact flash cards. Perhaps you could locate a
professional photographer who may be able to help. Did you try to
download them through the camera or using a card reader? One or the
other could be faulty.
Another thought, perhaps there is someone who contributes to
alt.comp.devices.digital-cameras that can help you. Failing everything
else you could post a message on 24hoursupport.helpdesk perhaps someone
will be able to make a constructive suggestion.

I tried to download both from the card reader, then from the camera.
I took the camera AND card reader to a local BestBuys and a seemingly
knowledgable young man took a look and said the CF card had to be
reformatted. He did this and at that point, hope vanished. Thanks
for the advice.

He wasn't too knowledgable; since formatting a card removes all data. I have
never had a problem with the camera to computer connection, but have had my
card reader to refuse to load the pictures. One other thing you could have
tried---take the card to a Wal-mart and see if it would load the pictures on
their machine. It is too late to try that option, now that the card has
been formatted.

Erm:
Becky had the same thing happen to her on the Paradise Cruise. She
was so upset. It was a 512mb Viking card. Yours wouldn't happen to be a
Viking
too would it? I have heard some bad things about this brand. Live & learn I
guess!

Joe, Mine is a Canon S200 Power Shot.
And even after formatting, I was able to
recover some of my photos. I could
not have gotten any of them but for the
advice of a NY photographer who
pointed me to the software!
