Yes, with very large service charges. Probably have much better luck in
port, and you can get local currency that way. There are some ATM's the
offer a choice of currencies too.

I think most ships today have ATM's and the service charge is about $5.00. On
some lines you can also get cash in the casino on your ship charge card.

Those ATM's usually seem to have a sign on them that says "out of
service".

I actually did an analysis of this on the Carnival Spirit when Eileen
lost every cash cent we had. Carnival charged 3% for cash on your
account. The ATM charge $4. I took 400 out of the ATM (the max allowed
by my bank in any 24 hours) for $4 (1%). If I had charged this to my
account it would have cost $12. So I saved $8 on the $400 that Eileen
threw down the slot toilet and lost again.

Yes, but some of the cruise lines charge to get cash in the casino.

I asked RCI/Celebrity about cash in the casino. Their anwser - No
charge if you use your cruise card. But there is a 3% charge if you get
cash in the casino with a credit card. Makes no sense since most people
use a credit card to pay the shipboard account. But who's compaining?

Don't depend on the on board ATM's. They sometimes empty out by the end
of the cruise. Bring your credit card or cash. I saw many frustrated
people on the cruise we were on lining up for the ATM on the last
evening only to find out it was empty. I asked a couple of seasoned
cruisers and found out that it was not unusual for this to happen.

Actually it does make sense. The credit card companies charge the
retailers a service fee as a percentage of the transaction.

So when you use your credit card to get cash in this case, the cruise line
would lose money on the transaction, since they would give you the cash
and then pay the credit card company the service fee on top of the cash
they give you.

When you use your credit card to pay for the cruise, etc. the cruise lines
have a profit margin built into the pricing of the products and services
that includes the cost of paying the service fees. Thus they don't itemize
the credit card company service fees into your bill. However, you are
paying it in the price of the good and services you buy.
