Hi all
would someone please tell me the correct spelling (fez or Fes) and why the
two names

It only has one name, ﻓﺎﺱ but Europeans couldn't agree on a
romanized version. The French used Fès and the British mostly use Fez
(which is also used for the hat)

It happens occasionally with the Anglo-Saxon vs Latinate spellings (cf
Brasil and Brazil). In this case the French spelling is Fes.

If that's your only problem, try spelling Qadhafy....
