Default Visiting Australia: minimum time remaining on passport?

Hi folks.

I have visited Australia many times before but this has never been an
issue until now.

I plan to go again in Aug 2007 but by then, my wife's passport will
only have two months' validity remaining. Does Australia have a
time-remaining requirement? I've looked on UK and Australian passport
sites but have so far drawn a complete blank.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom.

When I was there the passport had to be valid for six months after
departure. If you want to be on the safe side, apply for a new passport now.
It ought to be printed by August 2007 ;-)

I agree with the other answer, just get a new passport.
However, a little searching came up with this page, part of
a tutorial on the eta process:
http://www.immi.gov.au/managing-aust...tuts/t2/p7.htm

That implies that as long as the expiry is after she
departs, it shouldn't be a problem.

Why not ask them:

I have been to Australia with less than 6 months on my passport (about
4 months from memory) with no problems, but I was reminded at check-in
in both directions that my passport had a short time left.

Personally, I don't see why there should ever be that sort of
restriction on a passport. With a passport only lasting 5 years, that
effectively reduces it to 4.5 years.

I have found the Qantas web site useful for checking on passport
restrictions in the past, for most countries. I'm not sure if they
still have that information there.

Thanks very much to those who answered. The Qantas site doesn't seem
to think there will be a problem but I've sent an email using the link
Alan gave just to see if I can get a definitive answer.

Cheers,

Tom
