Really bummed cause I wanted to do a dive or two in Roatan. Seems one of
the ships engines is not running well and we won't be getting into port
until 3pm. Should I complain? Will it do me any good? Will they comp me a
drink? Wouldnt have bothered me but this is the one place I wanted to see(
underwater).

Bummer. But, as most folks here will tell you, don't take a cruise
specifically to see a particular port. Better off planning a land
vacation, if there's someplace you really want to visit. Too many
variables with cruises - delays due to mechanical problems (what
you've experienced), weather issues which can prevent a ship from
docking, anchoring (well, they might be able to anchor, but the
tenders might not be able to deal with the conditions), things like
that. And, the cruise contract that you signed specifically spells out
that the cruise itinerary can change pretty much at will, with no
compensation made to passengers.

If you do complain, try to do it with a smile on your face, and an
understanding attitude. I think they'll be more likely to want to help
someone that isn't screaming at them.

It's doubtful if they'll do much except refund the port charges. I've missed
ports before because of rain, civil outbreaks & been delayed because of wind
& hurricanes & never received much.

Are there any statistics on what percentage of cruises do not get to
ports that are on their itinerary, for any reason? Just curious.
