Hi,

I will be in banff for 3 days in august and I am wondering what to do
there. I am going on a rafting trip one day. For the other 2 days
should I stay on my own and check out the parks, hot springs, etc or
should I do an organized trip.
I want to maximize my time and I don't want to miss anything. I have
seen some interesting oragnized hiking, sightseeing, atv, and wildlife
trips. Can anyone help me?

We found the 'Cave and Basin' interesting - its got the story of the
discovery of the hot springs and the founding of the National Park.

k, 3 days in Banff, not alot of time, but to make the most of it here are
some things to do.

There's an open air observation deck at the top of the Sulphur Mountain
gondola, natural pools at Upper Hot Springs - and the occasional wild elk
and moose for company in town! You can take the gondola up the mtn, pay
$22-$24 I think, and walk down the Mtn and the "occasional elk" is not
really occasional, they are pretty prominent within the town itself.

A good range of restaurants there, best ones that I've been too are Wild
Bills http://www.wbsaloon.com/and Grizzlys
http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread/t-15106.html (awesome place doesn't come
cheap)

Banff is small enough to get around on foot.
Shuttle Bus - the town has a shuttle bus known as the "Happy Bus" which runs
twice hourly on two routes.
other things: http://www.banfftours.com/banff/s_helihiking.htm I would love
to do this but it's too rich for my blood. :O(

Must See's
*Bow Falls
*Cave & Basin Hot Springs
*Icefields Parkway
*Hoodoos
*The Banff Centre

I would agree with most of the suggestions. Do go up to Lake Louise and
take a hike along the lake there. It is one of the most famous and
beautiful sites in all of Canada. If you want to catch a view of wildlife
for sure, take the road that goes up to Norquay Mystic Ridge ski area which
is just minutes out of Banff. Every time I take this road, I see mountain
goats on the road. You will also get a great view of Banff.

If you want to try the best Alberta beef, try the prime rib in town. It's
the best.
