Hi I've heard scare stories about it being a sensible precaution against muggings to lock car doors and close windows when driving in the states. I am planning to drive from Chicago to Santa Monica in a convertible in June next year. Will that be safe ? What precautions should I take ? Also anyone know of places in Chicago that I can hire a convertible other then Hertz and Alamo ? Also Is June a good time to go ? I like it sunny and warm. Many thanks Well my husband and I just returned from driving from Illinois to Santa Monica on Route 66. We drove just about every inch possible of this fabulous road. We was not in a convertible but never encountered any problems whatsoever. People were very friendly. We stayed in alot of "mom pop" motels rather than the chain and expensive ones and again people friendly and no problems. Have fun, and just use general precautions. Marlene, Minnesota |

"JamesStep" wrote in message ... sensible precaution against muggings You should be fine if you take common-sense precautions like not driving at night in bad urban areas. But to cut the risk of theft, be sure the car is locked with the top up when you park it, and keep any valuables in the trunk where they are out of sight. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun. Just be sure to have lots of suntan lotion! Or better yet, sun screen lotion. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Remove "NOSPAM" from my address when sending me e-mail. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ - |
