Default So what did they refurbish on Monarch?

I think they need a bit more than a Jonny Rockets, new carpet, new casino,
etc.; just read what my clients experienced who where on this ship for the
January 27, 2006 cruise.

"My family and I took the 3 day cruise from Los Angeles to Ensenada on the
Monarch of the Seas on Jan. 27, 06. There were 12 of us traveling in the
following cabins: 4021, 4023, 4025 and 4527."

"There were several concerns that we all feel need to be addressed by Royal
Caribbean. The most unacceptable was the fact that our cabins did not have
electricity for nearly half of the time we were aboard. We complained and
repeatedly phoned housekeeping and maintenance to no avail. We were told
that there was a problem with the fuses and that it was being worked on. We
were without water for several hours... this meant no shower before dinner.
There was also a problem when one of the children was sick in the night and
there was limited light (at the time half of the cabin had power) - nor was
there any hot water to bath them (water had been restored by then - it just
wasn't warm). It was awful cleaning up a sick child in cold water - not a
fond memory."

"The swimming pool which the children had looked forward to using was only
filled for one day. Why??? The BINGO board had electric problems... the MC
told us that it was to be fixed next time they were in port. The karaoke
machines (words to songs) were not working. One of the 'exciting' seminars
available on the ship was really a sales pitch on spending money to have
your teeth whitened. Not good."

"The ship was in immediate need of general cosmetic maintenance. Rails in
hallways were loose, ceiling fixtures damaged, frayed carpeting, etc. Even
the children asked "why is the ship worn out and broken?". Those words,
coming from a child's view must tell Royal Caribbean something they need to
know and act on."

"I must say that the dining room wait staff was wonderful as was our cabin
steward - but - the ship was unacceptable."

"We are all Crown and Anchor Members and have cruised with Royal Caribbean
in the past. I will be anxious to hear a response from your offices."

As a side note, I already re-booked many of these people on another 3-day
cruise, but this time they all wanted Carnival Cruise Lines instead.
Likewise, I have long since filed my own complaint with our Royal Caribbean
International's District Sales Manager and Customer Service. The most
puzzling thing to me is, even thought many complaints were lodged during
this cruise by my clients, RCI not once offered to provide any type of
compensation for their inconvenience, which in essence could be considered a
health issue.

A look at the deck plans on RCI website doesn't seem to show a Johnny
Rockets but does show Jade.

Default just off the monarch

we just got off the monarch yesterday!! sailed feb 20-24
we were on it feb 2004, and march 2005 ... and couldn't really see much in
the way of changes since last year.

no johnny rockets... but they did give a facelift to the upper floor of the
windjammer restaurant. they spiffed up the 'pizza bar', making it look
like a separate restaurant.
jade's still in back of windjammer on 11, operates as an extra cost dining
choice.

the itinerary works for us. our teenagers enjoy this trip, as they always
have this week off in february.

cheers

fascinating. my wife and i were on monarch in november and experienced
none of this. in fact, we were impressed at how well the ship has
held up considering its age.

our report and photos are on our cruise web site:

The letter sounds like it was embellished by someone seeking
compensation. Since it is not signed and not posted by the supposed
complainant it is just an unverifiable tale. Posting a letter like that
to the newsgroup in that manner, second hand without a name, supposedly
written by an alleged client is dubious itself even if the account in
the letter were true. And the person who posted this John Sisker, has
generally been full of hot air in his past postings.

John,
I am truly amazed that you indicated that there was no response from Royal
Caribbean. I have found them to be very responsive to customer complaints,
especially when they have been illuminated by an agent. I would be speaking
with your district sales manager and on the phone with the president's
office if I did not receive a timely response to verifiable complaint of the
magnitude of what you have described.

Some restitution is definitely in order here.

Peter

You make a good point about anonymous second hand postings.I would be
much more inclined to believe the poster who was actually on the ship in
question.

In late August 2004, my wife and I were on the Enchantment of the Seas.
The ship was supposed to dock in Fort Lauderdale on the Saturday of
Labor Day weekend. Due to one of the many hurricanes of that summer, it
was not able to reach port until Labor Day, 2 days late.

On the first extra day, the captain kept the ship far from the storm. On
the next day, he brought us closer to Key West. This was done so
passengers could use their cell phones to call airlines, travel agents,
or call home. There was some extra rocking of the ship. My wife, who is
an avid swimmer, did her laps that morning before breakfast, and said it
was like swimming against the ocean current, By that afternoon, the
pools were drained. But it was not all that bad on board.

Some troll later posted that he heard from a friend on the ship that the
captain had brought them closer to the hurricane, and people were
"throwing up in the elevators". I posted in reply, that I was on the
ship in question, and saw nothing of the kind. I heard no complaints
like that, and in fact heard many people express their gratitude for
being able to use their cell phones. The troll kept arguing with me
quoting his anonymous source.

Especially given the new reality engendered by the full refund given by
Cunard, that may very well be someone looking for compensation.
