Default Southwest USA - Current Thinking

I've never heard of a mule going over the edge

There's never been a case of a tourist being killed from
a mule falling at the Grand Canyon. They have an
excellent safety record.

However, mules that are in training or who aren't good enough
to use for tourists are sometimes used as pack mules to
carry supplies down to the bottom, and there have been
a few cases of pack mules falling.

An animal with 4 legs is a lot more sure-footed than a
person with 2 legs. If a person takes a mistep and one foot
goes over the edge, they'll probably fall. But if a mule takes
a misstep, it's still got 3 hooves on solid ground.
