Pls next time stay at home. eat hamburger and be safe E. - homo sapiens with lack of melanin in top layer of his skin Don't mention Western Sahara: Moroccan campaign against Sahrawi human rights defenders and mine victims By: Martin Wikstr=F6m, www.vastsahara.org The Moroccan newspaper Aujourd'hui and the Association of the Moroccan Sahara (ASM) have recently risen a new campaign against Sahrawi human rights defenders and victims of mines in the Western Sahara and in the south of Morocco. The campaign is an answer to a Polisario campaign made to help a victim of mine, 10 year old young girl Hjiba Aouimir who lives near Assa, south of Morocco. She was a victim of an anti-personnel mine on March 04th 2004, when she was following her family's small cattle of goats in the desert. She has had two unsuccessful operations in Agadir which have cost a lot of money. The Aujourd'hui and the ASM claim that Polisario is using the girl as a martyr. Abdelmohsin EL HASSOUNI writes in Aujourd'hui that "The separatists of the polisario, represented in Morocco by "Tamek and company" wanted to exploit the annoying accident of a 10 year old young girl in their Moroccan anti propaganda." "This poor girl would thus be used by the polisario within the framework of a campaign which it has just launched last week under the denomination "countryside international against the anti-personnel mines and the Moroccan wall of shame to the Sahara". (article on http://www.aujourdhui.ma/couverture-details33041.html") The Swiss Foundation for Landmine Victims-Aid has taken charge of the curing of Hjiba. The ASM, which is of course Makhzen-made, pretended that it will take charge of the girl and cure her in Agadir to prevent the Swiss association from doing so. In other words the Moroccan authorities try to force the family of the girl to accept the curing in Morocco by the Moroccan authorities. The family of Hjiba said that the girl should go to Rabat or abroad as the two previous operations in Agadir were unsuccessful. Hence, some militants and relatives of the family travelled to Rabat and put the girl in Agdal clinic. There were a lot of conflicts with the Moroccan authorities trying to force the family to accept the Moroccan offer for curing in a military hospital. The father refused and released a press release thanking the Swiss association. The surprise was that the Moroccan king sent his orders that the girl should be cured on his expenses. The doctors said the girl's foot should be cut off. The family refuses, but a lot of pressure and threatening on them until now by the Wali of Rabat, the pasha (very famous for his repressive actions) and the Qaid. Sahrawi Activists Opposing Landmines in Western Sahara appeals: "We would like the Swiss association and all the other organisations and human rights defenders to interfere so that the family could cure the girl and not cut her leg. We no longer trust them because her two previous doctors Dr.Azzaz in Assa hospital and Dr.M'hamed Chlyah in a private polyclinic in Agadir said to a Moroccan newspaper three days ago that the state of the girl is stable and not serious. Now the head doctor of Agdal clinic says that the girl's foot has to be cut. What a controversy!" Bring pressure on Moroccan authorities to let the girl have the operations she needs! wrote in message oups.com... " Attention: WESTERNERS (white people).. DON'T GO TO MOROCCO !!! It's dirty, sleazy and DANGEROUS !!! DO GO !! (trust me ) Filthy Moroccan Men wait outside ALL the nicer hotels to rip-off and rob Westerners !! VERY DANGEROUS" The rest of it is a lot nicer than Tangier. I promise. Well, it can't be worse than Tangier. I'll go back again, but, definitely won't go via Tanga or if I do it will be to get a train out the next day. Tanga has gone way down hill since the old days, it attempts to live on past reputation, but, has forgotten how it got its past reputation. Rob |
