Beef farms contaminated with toxic feed

By Sarah Stack, PA
Tuesday, 9 December 2008
A shopper inspects products at a local shop in Belfast, Northern
Ireland. Many pork products have already been withdrawn. Now there is
concern about beef herds

Three Irish beef farms have been contaminated with a toxic substance
which devastated the country's pig meat industry, food safety chiefs
confirmed today.

But Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith insisted there was no public
health concerns after tests were carried out on 11 herds believed to
have been given an infected feed.

Three farms breached safe limits while a further eight have been given
the all-clear.

The levels of dioxins found in the beef were two to three times above
safe limits compared to 200 times for the pig meat which has
devastated the pork sector.

aye true enough... what they say about excessive meat eating (lack of
space efficiency per g of protein, and antique rain forest clearance for
grazing) being partially responsible for food crisis also compounded by
their latest "bright" idea of food oil (food growing space, antique rain
forest clearance etc.)) for fuel...

Have Northern Ireland sent any of these products over to mainland Britain?
EG Pork here in supermarkets is labled produced in UK, and that includes
Northern Ireland.

Sure.

I vaguely noticed something about October somewhere. Whatever, not very
long probably as i don't suppose the average farmer stocks more than a
few weeks of feed.

We don't know yet but if the famous 'feeding the pigs bread still in
plastic bags' is true then don't suppose such ridicululous habits
started yesterday.
