Default WA in Winter????

Hi all. Need help! We're a couple of QLDers who had planned to visit
Perth and surrounds in September for the wildflowers, but can't get
the leave from work at that time. The only alternative is June/July.
Is it too much to expect wildflowers at that time? If so, what other
interesting things are there to see and do at that time?

Or are we better off going somewhere else?

June/July - cold and wet (hopefully) in southern half. No flowers worth
coming for. Plenty to see and do but the weather may be against you.
Northern half beautiful weather. No flowers yet. Could go to the Pilbara to
Karijini National Park or to the Kimberleys say a camping trip (4WD) to
Mitchell Plateau or to the Bungle Bungles.

Perth and southern half may freeze your you know whats off a couple of
Queenslanders ! Did I mention the rain ?
However Perth and surrounds are well worth a visit at any time. Beautiful
city with friendly people, lots to see and do depending upon what you're
into. Perth has only one problem, its 4000k beach )

The north of WA will be more in line with QLD temps, but alas the
wildflowers usually hide at that time of year.

I am from Qld and can recommend Perth (and WA generally) around mid February
to mid April.

Wild flowers at that time of year are everywhere you look although not in
the "carpet" effect you might expect.

The Banksias flower about March and as 60 odd of the 97 varieties come from
WA you are bound to see lots - but only if you look.

Salmon Gums shed their bark at that time also so you will see them in their
new pink "skin".

After my last trip in 2003 I had a web page up with about three or four
dozen photos of the wild flowers.

Don't let people fool you. There are always wild flowers to see no matter
what time of the year.
