Keeping my travel articles safe
Maybe Diebold or Sentry makes a line of luggage? :-))
Cheers, Alto ________________________________ Keeping my travel articles safe Group: rec.travel.cruises Date: Fri, Dec 23, 2005, 8:19am (PST+4) From: ) I have traveled extensively and would like to get some feedback regarding the safety of my cash, passport etc.. When out, I carry a money belt which contains a copy of my passport , cash and credit card under my slacksI. I always try to get a hotel which has an in-room safe but there are some areas with modest hotels that don't have one. In that case I put my valuables inside my suitcase in my room and I lock it but the locks which come on Samsonite and other brands can be easily picked. Does anyone know of a luggage brand which is particulary difficult to get into? Thanks, Sy -- Please post and reply to |

Keeping my travel articles safe
This makes me wonder about security. Unfortunately, I'll have to work
during my forthcoming cruise, and some of the materials in my briefcase will be quite confidential. I don't mind opening the case for a casual check when boarding, but how safe will it be in the cabin during the cruise? It'll be locked, but... And this might answer the question of where to put that bottle of scotch... Ike |

If the materials are quite confidential then you probably want to keep them locked up and out of sight. There is a small safe in the cabin. If there is a lock on your briefcase you could keep them locked up in there or locked up in a suitcase. I don't think you have much worry about anyone breaking into a briefcase or locked bag, but if you leave materials out in the open you could risk casual eyes taking note. I say that because one of the cabin stewards read my comment card that was laying on the desk and asked me about something I had written in the comments!!! On twenty-one cruises I have never had anything missing and that includes expensive cameras, plus I always take my laptop. -- Charles |

You should always be cautious, but cruise ships are fairly safe. They do not change employees as often as hotels or resorts. Many of these people work on cruise ships until they retire. So far, I have never had anything stolen or missing from my cabin, but you should always be careful. As far as the scotch, pack it in your luggage. You can leave bottles or cans of beverages anywhere in your cabin. Becca |

I travel 3-times a year, maybe a cruise in there somewhere and have never had anything stolen from my room, or been robbed on vacation. I've been robbed 30 minutes from my home though and imagine it does happen when people travel.. I'd advise to keep your valuables out of sight on your person, do not carry a purse or knap sack or gold jewelry. Leave shopping until the last minute, when you can return directly to your hotel or cruise ship. It's just not worth the injuries. You would think that someone pushing you down wouldn't cause many injuries. Well, think again, because it happened to me. That would ruin your entire vacation. Stay safe! ~Melanie |
