Fort Lauderdale hotel needed post cruise
Mary,
Two years ago I stayed at the BW Marina Inn and Yacht Club and it was a dump. It is an older property which must at one time have been a Howard Johnson or Holiday Inn but got too run down. On my pre cruise, they wanted $129 and it wasn't worth it. The old accommodations were clean but never updated. Some of the hotel rooms on the harbour side have been turned into rental offices. Walkways and elevators were dirty. The restaurant was not very clean either. We were promised free transfers but when arriving at FLL airport we called and were told we had to wait 3 hours for a pickup or take a cab. On cruise day, they had one van making runs with a couple of hundred people in a very disorganized manner. We, again took a cab. Checkout, too, was crowded and disorganized on cruise day. I was in Fort Lauderdale a week ago and drove by. It appears they are doing some construction on the north side of the building near the causeway. The location is great for cruising and looking at Port Everglades but about 2 miles from Fort Lauderdale beach action and the associated restaurants and night life. There are other hotels which are a much better deal in the area. Sorry for the bad news, the Best Western Marina Inn and Yacht Club is on my black list. Hi we re looking for a good but moderate priced hotel in Fort Lauderdale post cruise. I have been researching and found the Best Western Marina Inn and also Best Western Oceanside both around $70 . Has anyone stayed at these hotels. Both seem to be close to the nightlife. Any suggestions would help I will need 10 rooms for my group and both hotels offer shuttle service to/from the port and airport. Plama,
The BW still is a not a five star, four star or barely a three star. Often, there rate (typically this time of year) is pretty close to that of the Marriott Marina, just down the street. You can't realy compare the two, as the the Marriott is a fine resort hotel with all the feature you'd expect. We have also been getting good rates from the Yankee Clipper over on the beach. A great location if you want the beach scene. Next time, give the Marriott Marina a shot. Peter Plasma wrote: Mary, Two years ago I stayed at the BW Marina Inn and Yacht Club and it was a dump. We stayed at the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott Marina last week, as well as
many other times for a precruise. The hotel is beautiful and is across the street from the port. they do not provide free shuttle (that I know of) from the airport to the hotel, but that's only about an $8.00 taxi ride. They do provide free shuttle from the hotel to the ship, and they transported us back from the hotel to the airport, as we had a lapse of about 8 hours before leaving to head back home, so we went back to the Marriott after our cruise. On 02/08/2004 9:32 AM Mary Georgetti after palpating a Gingko,
electronically interjected: Hi we re looking for a good but moderate priced hotel in Fort Lauderdale post cruise. True the towers are kind of boxy from the outside but they really have nice rooms, plus an elevated walkway over A1A to the beach. They also have free airport and Port Everglades shuttles which run on half-hour and fifteen minutes during peak times. The location puts you within walking distance of all the better beach restaurants. My favorite is the Casablanca Cafe. In the basement of the South Tower they have a laundromat, in the North Tower there is a 24 hour deli, heated semi-indoor pool and outdoor pool. By port shuttle I think it's less than 8 minutes away. If you have a large group, ask about special group rates. -- ________ To email me, Edit "xt" from my email address. Brian M. Kochera "Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!" Hi,
We stayed at the Sleep Inn (booked online through hotelkingdom.com) before our Christmas cruise. I think we paid about $45.00 plus tax. It was a great room and included transfers from FLL and to the port by hotel shuttle, no problem taking barb's three wheel scooter. It was new, clean, and included what they called a Continental Breakfast, but I would call it a Breakfast Buffet. They had "make-your-own" Belgian waffles, fruit, bagels/creamcheese etc. agood deal all around. Tobieon an Island in the Pacific "Andy" wrote in message om... (Mary Georgetti) wrote in message ... I just stayed at the Amerisuites on 17th Street (Address is
1851 SE Tenth Avenue). The price was a bit more than what you mentioned you're looking at ($99 booked through http://valuetrips.com), but they did offer free shuttles from the airport (about 2 miles) and to the port (half a mile). They also offer free shuttle FROM the port if you are staying there after a cruise. The rooms are suites - we had a king-sized bed plus a sofa bed, a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and dishes/glasses/ flatware for 3. There was a small desk that could also be used as a table. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Amenities included an iron and ironing board and hairdryer. There was also a nice outdoor pool (heated), and an exercise room with a treadmill, stair-stepper, universal gym, bike, etc. Breakfast is included, though we had been out with friends very late the night before and just didn't get up in time for it. :-) They had waffles (you actually cook your own on a commercial waffle baker - pretty neat), juices, toast, bagels, cold cereal, microwave oatmeal, muffins, fruit, etc. There is an Outback Steakhouse and a Mexican restaurant right next door, plus there are many other restaurants and stores within a block or two. There was a Publix grocery store just down the street - I noticed many people coming into the hotel loaded down with grocery bags. I was very happy with it, and would certainly book there again. It's nicer than a Motel 6 or Super 8 type place (and the room is much larger), but it's not as nice as Embassy Suites. Personally, for a one-night stay, I'm happy as long as it's clean, comfortable, convenient, and reasonably priced. A.
