Clouds over Brussels Airlines' launch

Thu 22/03/07 - Just days before the official start of Brussels
Airlines, there is social unrest among the merged airline company's
staff. Brussels Airlines, a merger of SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin
Express, is due to start on Sunday.
At the centre of the discussion is the time between 2 flights, the so-
called rotation time.

In the current system, staff possess of 40 minutes to bring everything
ready for the next flight.

With the introduction of the new airline company, the management wants
to reduce that time to 30 minutes.

But the unions say the proposition is not realistic.

"That is not achievable, certainly not on the long-haul destinations",
Anita Van Hoof of the socialist union says.

"But that's not even what the whole discussion it's about. The problem
is that the management unilaterally decided to abolish something that
was decided on in the collective labour agreement."

It is not as yet clear whether the staff will undertake action. Union
representatives say this will be discussed in a meeting later today.

Still, they have already underlined they certainly do not wish to make
the passengers the victim of their actions.
