Default End Mugabe's brutality in Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe's desperate attempts to cling on to power are plunging
Zimbabwe into ever greater chaos. His attacks on democratic opposition
leaders must end now. Sign the petition below to urge that Zimbabwe's two
main trading partners, South Africa and the European Union, adopt and
enforce tougher sanctions targeting Mugabe and his top aides

Petition to European Union leaders and South African President Mbeki:

President Mugabe and his associates must learn that violating human rights
brings tough consequences. We urge you, the leaders of Zimbabwe's largest
trading partners, to publicly commit to stronger, targeted sanctions on
Mugabe and other officials in his regime if attacks on democratic opposition
leaders are not immediately stopped.

I'm afraid that sanctions brought on Zim would only worsen the now
horrific plight of the actual people of Zimbabwe. Mugabe himself would
only grab the little left of the wealth leaving the common folk even
less than they already have. Some other method would be
acceptable....in a hurry, if at all possible.

What are you thinking of? A spokesman from the MDC told in a newspaper that
he was happy with the support from the west (read: Australia) but that
Africans should solve this matter.

Tougher sanctions will make a hard life even tougher on Zimbabwe's citizens.
Sanctions will not drive out Mugabe anymore than sanctions have forced a
policy change in other countries where they have been used. Corruption is
one of the scourges of many African nations and the problems in nations like
Zimbabwe can only be solved by the people of Zimbabwe themselves.
