Default MIAMI stopover of 7 hours - any TIPS?

Hi all,

Will likely have a stopover (in between flights) in Miami for a good 7 hours
during the day later this month, and was wondering if you could give me any
tips on how to have some fun, ideally see a bit of the city in this short
time and/or taste the atmosphere!

Any feedback appreciated,
Ward

Of the Miami Hostels, the South Beach Hostel is the most fun. There is a
full bar that is open to the public where you can meet travelers from around
the world.

Miami Hostels -- the South Beach Hostel inside Caffe Tramonto
235 Washington Ave.
Miami Beach, FL 33139
1-305-672-2137

This Miami Hostel (http://www.thesouthbeachhostel.com) is independantly
operated and is not affiliated with Hostelling International (HI), Youth
Hostelling International (YHA), so a membership card is *not* required to
stay. Rates start at $13 to $18 when booked online (*) which includes tax,
free Internet, free breakfast, and free telephone calls to anywhere in the
United States.

Spring Break at the South Beach Hostel -- The most fun of the Miami Hostels
(http://www.thesouthbeachhostel.com/s...reak-miami.htm). The hostel's
beds are filling up, but there are still some left for the famous Florida
spring break. For current hostel rates, click he

IMHO if you have a stopover, you should go to the South Beach art Deco area
of Miami. Easy cab ride from the airport and it will give you a wonderful
feeling of Miami.

In case you're looking for this district on a map, it's actually in the
separate city of Miami Beach. It is indeed worth a look.

If it were me, I would rent a car for $23, get a good guidebook for the city
(or go to an online guide that has recommendations) and then play it
loose--pick out a couple intriguing-sounding goals (and a couple unique
restaurants) and let your enjoyment of the experience cluster around the
process of just getting there .

But if driving around sounds like too much responsibility or hassle, then
the cab to South Beach is probably a good idea--though it is not necessarily
an easy or simple place to enjoy on foot for multiple hours. Miami is
simply not an easy, breezy city to negotiate--it is fast, clean, often
pretty, a touch hard, and a bit imposing. It takes some planning and
research to set your sights on a few things that sound enchanting--and
guidebooks or online guides are the best way to pick up some ideas that
might fit you personally.
