Just returned from cruise - don't get it...

What I meant by communist state or tactics; In communist countries such as China and once Russia, people informed on each other out of fear.. While on a ship, it would not be done out of fear, but there is the unpleasantness of reporting others and acting as an informant,...I do not find that as a very pleasant thing to be doing, especially while enjoying a cruise.. I am not a smoker and cannot tolerate smoking due to allergies and sinus trouble...but I think if a cruiseline says that there is to be no smoking in the cabins, it is THEIR job to see that appropriate measures are set up to prevent it from happening.. While I tend to agree with you, from my point of view, I'm going to make sure I enjoy my cruise. You are probably paying a premium to enjoy a smoke free cruise, why not make sure that you do? I asked a guy on our last cruise to please move to the smoking side of the pool. Let's just say he was unfriendly, so I asked a passing staffer (one of the cruise staff, not a waiter) to talk with him. She did, he moved, called me a bunch of names. We got a small round of applause. The cruise line did not arrive at this policy without considering the wishes of its clients. So in enforcing "its wishes" (as you put it), the cruise line is enforcing the wishes of its clients. Ref, as I said above, the cruise line should enforce its own rules and not expect the passengers who have taken it for those very reasons, to do it...If they are willing to put out the money to do it properly, there should be no problem...Carnival Paradise was able to do it.. --Jean I I think it's actually easier on a totally smoke free ship. Anything out of the ordinary is either cigarettes or a real fire. When you have smoking in some parts of the ship, you can't tell if it's someone smoking in their stateroom or just that dreadful pall that smokers always drag around with them. Why would someone sign up for a smoke free trip, knowing it's smoke free, and then try to sneak a smoke. That's like sneaking a drink in a voluntary rehab. Or did I just answer my question? -- dillon When I was a kid, I thought the angel's name was Hark and the horse's name was Bob. |

Just returned from cruise - don't get it...
Ultimately I believe that there will be significantly less smoke permitted
on cruise ships, Don't hold your breath. g In my opinion, the cruiselines won't ever see it your way.....simple fact....non-smokers will and can, **** and moan all they like..they even pretend to follow through on threats not to cruise a certain line, ship, etc.,... truth be told...they'll cruise, no matter the kicking and screaming,,, Smokers? Well, they just won't! Simple as that....I know you don't see it this way, but, smokers won't even consider being stuck/trapped on a ship that doesn't allow smoking! Unlike you, who consider going on a smoking cruise.. smokers won't.. and, the cruiselines know this.. I smoke..Dh quit 4 years ago, he loves cruising, so do i...I also realize that it's getting harder and harder to find places to smoke, land wise. There can be a reasonable comprimise.. FLL sems to have found it. We pre and post cruise in FLL, nd we do find places/ bars/rest's that allow smoking. My DH doesn't like the smell, etc, that goes with my being a smoker, even though, he is an ex-smoker..no matter, he does know I will not cruise the day cruises become non-smoking! End oif story! And yet, I seriously doubt cruiseships will ever become, majority non-smoking. I also don't believe that any of the mainstream lines will seperate cabins, SM, NS, no matter what side of ship or deck! And, Oh MY! I really think you have a lot of balls to even suggest nonsmokers have the right to supersede smokers ... Even my DH, ex-smoker that he is.. doesn't agree or think that what YOU have paID AS A NON-SMOKER for a balcony should have veto power over who the type of , equally paying balcony paxs reside next to you! Talk about entitlement! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.732 / Virus Database: 486 - Release Date: 7/30/04 |
