San Francisco accomodation and trip route from SFO to San Diego

We plan to sightsee in and around SFO from 11/22 to 11/24.
We will be six people (4 adults, 2 kids ages 7 and 1).
We are looking for apartments or B&B suggestions
around $150. I have checked the suite hotels and they
are around $200. Any recommendations please?

Next, we are headed south to San Diego, and have
2 days/1 night for the journey. We would like to partially
drive the coast route. Any recommendations for sights
along the way for the 7 yr old? Also, any interesting
shopping spots for the wives would be visited.

Was that in San Francisco? it's about as cheap as you're going to
find in the Bay Area.

You can't really "partially" drive the coast route. You can skip
the part of CA-1 that goes through Lompoc, though.

Dennis the Menace playground in Monterey. And the Aquarium.

Also the Boardwalk amusement park in Santa Cruz.

Also, any interesting shopping spots for the wives would be visited.

How expensive do they want to go and what are they looking for
that they can't get at home?
