digital photography has changed society? I just got my first
digital body, where should I expect change outside of processing
images?

Even processing images hasn't changed much. You don't have to develop
film, but you still need a lab for prints. You have images in digital
form, but you could have those with film, too, by simply scanning.

A scanned image is still a digital image and its post camera that
I find the advantages of digital so far. Having/not having a film
is no big deal. As for prints I only get one made if someone
wants to buy a print. I view pictures on screen, I think I last
got my projector out a year or more ago and I don't have more
than a couple of dozen prints.
The only way I can see a change in society is you can now do porn
stills in privacy the way you can do porn video.

Apparently digital pornography is one of the major success stories of
digital photography, although it is not widely publicized.

I think that has as much to do with the web as with digital. I
don't know if the pornography is illegal in the countries it is
produced in or if on site film development would be an issue for
pornographers anyway.
At least digital stops some hystericals accusing people
innocently taking photos of their children of pedophilia.

Ignoring about 3 billion spam messages a day.

most of the spam I get is for viagra like drugs, penis extensions
and financial scams. I'm not sure spam volume reflects the
success of an industry?

It reflects the intelligence profile of its target market, though. The
more spam an industry generates, the more stupid its average customers
are.

Maybe more its desperation?

I doubt it. People who buy things like penis enlargements tend not to
be very bright. And people who respond to spam advertisements also tend
not to be very bright. So it makes sense that someone selling penis
enlargements would spam a large audience. You wouldn't see the same
thing from, say, manufacturers of binocular microscopes.

I suspect they often spam because they are scams, I dont suppose
clinics doing genuine enlargements advertise in that way.
