Default barbados hotels

Hi All,

Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels on the island of
Barbados? There are so many to choose from, so if you experienced
Barbados visitors could whittle down our choices, that would be very
helpful. I found a great price on the Barbados Hilton at hotels.com
but we're not sure we want to stay at such a big, chain, resort-type
place....unless it's really great (looks very nice from the website).
Not interested in AI, and would like beachfront. I have no idea about
which area we want to be in. The only activity planned is a visit to
Orchid World, but that's not on the beach, so not interested in
staying near there. A place within walking distance of a nice
assortment of restaurants would be good. We'd like to spend under $200
per night, if at all possible. Locally owned is fine.

Thanks.

Lee

Hi .... rates in Barbados vary hugely by season so when do you intend
travelling? The period 19 Dec - 15 April is usually over twice the rate
right now.

You chose well to avoid the BGI Hilton. It is not typical of Barbados.

I suspect you may be well suited by one of the really comfortable places
on the South Coast. The local owners will be pleased to hear of your
last remark :-))

There are many Barbados specialists who help in this ng .... you should
get some useful feedback ... especially from Leif if he still signs on.

Enjoy the island .... I'm going there again on Wednesday.

The trip is planned for mid-November, so I should be able to find a
deal...

I thought not. Thanks for the feedback on this.

Can you offer any names?

Leif???? Are you there???? Can you hear us????

Thanks. We will, I'm sure. Didn't actually have plans to visit, but we
have to connect through Barbados to get to our "real" destination in
the Grenadines. We just tacked on a few days at the end of the trip,
to get a quick taste of what Barbados has to offer for a potential,
longer future visit.

I'm in the same boat. We're looking to try and return before the Dec
15 deadline. The last time we were in Barbados was '96 and we stayed
in Divi South Winds. We'd like to stay in a place like that again
where it's a very short walk to the beach. But, a bit more upscale
than Divi. There will be 2 adults and one child. So the room should
be sizeable enough to accomodate 3 people.

Last time we stayed at the Amaryllis.
We LOVED it there! And the Savannah A little fancy for us and not a great beach.
This time we will be staying at Sandy Bay Beach club same Hotel family as Amaryllis.

There used to be several people on this NG that were huge Barbados fans but I fear all the spam and BS has chased them away.

Have you looked at Coconut Court?

I can stay almost anywhere all I need is a beach and real nice people!!

People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did, but
people will never forget how you made them feel.

We tried Coconut Court in 2002 and found it expensive and run down in
some areas. The ASTI hotel right next door was modern, clean, right on
the beach and about half as expensive.

What's the Dec 15 deadline? Is that when holiday/winter rates go into
effect?

If it were just me, I wouldn't be so picky. I really wouldn't care
too much about the accomodations as it would be just me, some shorts
and my camera equipment. But, I have two fussy ladies with me. LOL,
ones 4 and the other is 47. I looked at Amaryllis. It's nice! I
think I remember Sandy Bay Beach Club. It neighbored Divi if memory
serves. It was nice too.

Correction! IIRC, it was ASTA Hotels.

I read some rather unfavorable reviews of Amaryllis on
tripadvisor.com. One or two negatives, I can look past, but repeated
comments about how rundown the resort is, mold, outdated and dirty
bathrooms, ciggy butts on the walkways, bird droppings on the lounge
chairs, etc. At first glance, it looks like a place we'd like, but now
I'm hesitant. Cleanliness is of the utmost importance to me, as far as
hotels go.
