Default question from newbie - hotels

we're going to london and we have a choice of staying in mayfair
(holiday in mayfair) or in kensington (regency hotel). does anyone have
any experience with either of these?

we love to walk!

As I live in London I don't use hotels but these are both in
smart areas.

Mayfair might have the edge for walking, you can go through the
Royal Parks past Buck house to Traveller Square and then down to
the Thames and along the Thames path.
