Default Day trips to Italy/Swizerland From Annecy

We will be staying in Annecy for a week in the second week of
December.
Wondering if there is a possibility of doing day trips across the
border to visit some of the Italian & Swiss villages or towns.

Is this possible on a day trip?

We will be having a car.
Any advice/recomendations ?

thanks

It's certainly doable, but it's a long and expensive journey. You can visit
Lake Geneva area of Switzerland easily enough by following autoroute to
Geneva and continue to Lausanne and Montreux. You pay toll on French side
and a 40SFr vignette for Swiss motorway. If you want to go to the Alpine
area of Valais, you go to Chamonix and then by Forclaz pass to Martigny. It
will take half a day to get to Zermatt, as you need to take a train to the
village.
For Italy, you go to Chamonix again and then use Mont Blanc tunnel (35 euro
r/t) to Courmayeur, which is a famous ski resort. Further on along the
valley is Aosta with Roman remains, and you can take side trips into Gran
Paradiso national park with spectacular mountain scenery and wildlife.

Hi 6656,

You could drive to Evian and take the boat - old boats with paddle
wheels - on the Lake Leman for a cruise. IMHO the nicest villages on the
Swiss shore are Saint-Saphorin, Lutry, Cully: small streets in the
middle of the wineyards, see
http://www.davidecamisasca.com/lemano/Leman_03.html.

The boat company is called CGN. The routes and timetable are available
on the website http://www.cgn.ch/. Choose "english", then go to
"Services", "Recommended cruises", "Round trip map". The Haut Lac
circuit would be the one I recommend. Unfortunately I don't think that
this will let you time to leave the boat and visit the village, unless
you can break the cruise in 2 parts. In winter the boats are less
frequent than during the summer. If you can, then my choice would be to
visit Saint-Saphorin. Very good restaurant there, the Auberge du Raisin.

Another option is to cross the lake with the regular service linking
Evian to Lausanne and visit the Olympic museum just a few meters away
from the harbour in Lausanne. You would spend less time on the boat -
which will be chilly in December - and not really see small villages.
