Normally, I would say there's absolutely no point having a car in
London, as long as you have the use of your legs.

If you're planning to spend your time sightseeing in central London, I
would still say the car would be an expensive hindrance - traffic
jams, diversions, finding somewhere to park, paying for it (and for
the daily congestion charge to get into central London) all take their
toll.

Public transport in London is in that sense a great deal more
flexible.

The one thing that might make me think again is that Ealing is quite a
way out in the suburbs, and if you only plan to travel around in the
suburbs or outside London altogether ( especially with a toddler) it
might be a convenience.

On the other hand I wouldn't fancy driving all the way across Europe.
in the first place. I'd be inclined to go for the flights and the
extra time.

I'm planning two weeks summer time in August in London with my toddler.
Have no idea should we travel there by air with cheap flights (early rigid bookings) and stay serviced by public London transport,
or choose own car (which includes 2× ferry) to have some flexibility on the spot ?
We'll stay in Ealing (W3) at relations' apartment.

we didn't mention the congestion charge, £5 a day for cars in
central London.

Also, you can add quite a bit if you intend to park the car anywhere
there- assuming you can find a spot.

up to about £5 an hour. (the underground car park at Trafalgar
Square)

Do they take your first born toddler too?

I think Europeans just leave them in the car!

Wasn't it the case of a Danish couple leaving their kid in a pram outside of
a NYC restaurant while they dined inside...???
