My wife and I keep changing our minds as to where we might go next
fall. Our latest plan is Barcelona. So let me ask all of you

Should we go?

What are its cultural and museum attractions?

What part of town should we stay in?

Recommend a hotel, if possible. We want a central location, private
bath, moderate prices.

How long should we go for?

Anything else you want to tell us?

What are its cultural and museum attractions?

Old city center (barrio gotico), with the old cathedral and many
scattered XIII. XIV. and XV. century monuments.
Gaudi architecture, Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Guell Park, many houses
(casa Mila).
Various Museums (Miro, Tapies fundation)
Monumental avenues (Ramblas).
Montjuic hill
Montcada street district.
The spanish atmosphere.
Beaches.

I heard of
Banys
http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/

http://es.barcelona.com/hoteles_de_barcelona/hotel_arts

How long should we go for?

If you stay in the City, 4 or 5 days should be enough, depending how much
you like museums, architecture or night atmosphere.

Anything else you want to tell us?

Many different things to be seen in a 100 km radius, mediteranean more
rocky coast and nice villages near the French border (cape Creus,
Cadaques, Ampuria, San Pedro de Roda)
Pyrenees moutains and valleys including Andorra.
Some French Catalunya (Banyuls, Collioures, Perpignan, Limoux).
Montserrat abbey.

if you like it.. anyway it is the favourite city of our family. there
are many sides to this town and the plans should be tailored according
to yr taste.

What are its cultural and museum attractions?

plenty, you need to filter them according to taste. miro, picasso,
dali.. gaudi architecture. numerous galleries and design shops.

What part of town should we stay in?

between laietana and ramblas should do. we stayed in s. pere, which
is still within walking radius but certainly not touristry nor
attractive. for more sophisticated environment stick to eixample.

Recommend a hotel, if possible. We want a central location, private
bath, moderate prices.

we got our place (a 2 bedroom appartment) via interhome, but then you
have to make yr breakfast by yrselves..

How long should we go for?

for me and kids 2 weeks was not enough but for mrs it was.

Anything else you want to tell us?

be safe and watch yr steps. it is not a city of angels. almost
anyone you ask knows someone who has been robbed there.

if U want more details fix the address an mail me.

Check Frommers.com or Fodors.com.

Look at the attractions on Frommers.com for each destination.

Catalan food, modernist architecture (mostly Gaudi), Picasso and Miro
museums, beautiful topology ranging from the hills to the harbor, etc.

Check out Barcelona, by Whit Stillman, for a look at the architecture
and cultural flavor. I haven't seen Victoria Christina Barcelona but
that should have some nice backdrops of the city as well.

Also was watching a preview of a show on the Travel Channel and one of
the segments was on Spain. Check out the clips on Spain:

http://www.travelchannel.com/Video_&...neupId=1387565
829

They go to a bar in a costal town near Barcelona and the attraction are
these canned seafood, which costs upwards of 200 Euro each for a small
tin!

Then Bourdain in another clip says that the best food in the Western
world is in Spain and that we're probably eating better than at any time
in the history of the world.
