Changing to Celebrity
E.k.R. wrote: I see just as much cleaning, polishing, vacuuming, etc. on RCI as I do on Celebrity, Princess, etc. Ernie, specifically vacuuming, I don't see anywhere near as much vacuuming even on HAL that I see on Celebrity. They constantly vacuum, they vacuum the furniture, the rugs, any fabric, and sometimes they even get in your way with all of the cleaning going on. While certainly Celebrity ships aren't spotless I find the cleaning constant and conspicuous that I certainly did not see on RCI. There was some cleaning but nowhere near as much as Celebrity. I saw a lot of painting on the exterior of Explorer, more than Celebrity, and some varnishing. I think Celebrity could take better care of the exterior of their ships, sometimes the blue areas look faded and uneven and I've seen rust areas on Zenith and Horizon in NYC, and I also think that the deck area flooring can look quite worn and could be better kept. So Celebrity's not perfect. But I definitely see differences in the maintenance of Celebrity and HAL vs. what I've seen, even in ship tours, of RCI ships. The most unclean ships I've seen in tours are NCL. I've only taken one NCL cruise, and it was a short one, and the ship was not clean, and I think it is telling that on tours NCL ships were not at all clean, Crystal was immaculate, Celebrity ships have been always very clean, HAL ships have been always very clean, Pacific Princess was conspicuously being cleaned when I toured her. There are differences in overt cleanliness in cruise lines (I don't know how an NCL galley may look compared to a Celebrity galley or other areas not seen by the public). Ben S. |

I stand by what I stated earlier. I've never found any RCI ship I've sailed
to be dirty, and I've sailed enough cruise lines and ships that The RCI ships I have cruised on looked clean to me. I guess it depends on what you look for. When I cruise, I am on vacation. I enjoy the ship and the activities the ship offers. I am not holding a clipboard and wearing white gloves doing ship inspections. Maybe I should cruise on RCI more often, I am sure I would find a ship that was soiled. Becca -----does not search for rust on the rails... Becca -----does not search for rust on the rails... Believe me Becca, I am not a "clean freak." The kind of stuff I've seen on all but the newest RCCL ships does not require white gloves to detect. It is VERY obvious and to me there is very obviously some kind of management problem with respect to ship maintenance on this line. Despite this, I have actually loved all of my RCCL cruises and would go on any of the Voyager or Radiance class ships in a heartbeat. Howard |

I know what you mean, Howard. There are times when dirt just jumps out at you, even when you're not looking for it. Honestly, how many of us go on a cruise to find fault with the housekeeping? But when you're stumbling over full-to-the-brim trash bins and bumping into ashtrays that are overflowing, how can you NOT see that?? One would have to be completely and unabashedly oblivious to what's around them not to. Karen Thanks Karen. Howard - who has stated more than once that he has never met a cruise he didn't like. |

Norwegian Dawn was on the same level of cleanliness as Ocean Princess
(our best Princess ship) and most Celebrity ships we've seen. I don't know if it's because the ship was very new when we were on her, or if Star is much more serious than NCL's previous ownership, or if we just got lucky with that ship. She had nothing in common with the Leeward that we were both on. --Tom Benjamin Smith wrote: E.k.R. wrote: I see just as much cleaning, polishing, vacuuming, etc. on RCI as I do on Celebrity, Princess, etc. Ernie, specifically vacuuming, I don't see anywhere near as much vacuuming even on HAL that I see on Celebrity. It seems like as people get older they are more inclined to eat earlier and
usually request first seating. In my view however I feel that the big attraction to Caribbean Cruising is the Islands and the Sunsets. Eating early and going to bed early can wait till I can no longer Travel and Cruise. We like to be about the last ones back, have some cocktails or wine, meet with friends and compare the days adventures, kick back on deck or balcony, and enjoy the magnificient Sunsets. Then get cleaned up for dinner and what the ship has to offer. Cal Ford http://www.lidodeckcruises.com 800-511-4417 In article , E.k.R. says... Eileen, That annoys me to no end as well! One of the reasons I book the late seating is I don't like being rushed to get ready for dinner, and often times I enjoy a before dinner cocktail. Having my evening show before dinner shoots that all to hell! Drives me crazy! Another reason I like the late seating is so my evening doesn't feel long or dragged out. It's so simple. Pool and gym/spa during the day. Leisurely get ready for dinner. Before dinner cocktails. Dinner. Evening show. Disco or casino afterward. It's after midnight before you know it. By placing the show before dinner I'm left with little to do after dinner! I've written that in my questionnaire several times, but Celebrity still seems hell bent on doing this.... although not every night, just some. If it were the case every night I might have to consider another cruise line. Ernie "Eileen Garland" wrote in message ... I'll pick just one point out of your excellent post, Ernie. The last few Celebrity cruises we've been on did have two shows most night - but they very often offered the before-dinner show to late-seating guests and the after-dinner show to the early-seating guests. Annoyed the hell out of me! Eileen |

It was one of the best parts of the cruise. I walked away amazed. Bill |

I have always preferred the early dinners so I could have more time later. I
will admit, though, as a sun-worshiper it was often difficult to go in and get ready for a formal night, in particular. But, I guess that's what Anytime Dining is for on Princess, at least.
