Visa from nepal into tibet

Hi,

I'm planning a trip from nepal to tibet to china, but am very confused
this whole tibet visa issue.

Essentially, I'd like to do the following.
1. Tour around Nepal
2. Fly Kathmandu to Tibet
3. Tour around Lhasa and nearby regions
4. Fly Lhasa to Chengdu
5. Tour around China

From what I've read, I should get my China and Nepal visas from home
(Australia). I then have to apply for a visa in Kathmandu. How do I
do this. Do I have to join a tour group. Are there any tours that
allow me to fly in-fly out of lhasa withoutbeing attached to a tour.

Also, I've heard that if the Kathmandu Chinese embassy issues me a
permit to enter Lhasa, they reduce the duration of my china visa to the
number of days of the tour. Will this stop me from travelling on from
Lhasa into China and continuing travel for another month in china?

First thing you need to do is to start reading newspapers. Nepal is
locked down.

Essentially, I'd like to do the following.

Going to Nepal will be a little dificult at the moment, but in general you
can just get a visa on arrival.
