Hijacking foiled over Thailand

Associated Press

Bangkok — A drunken Lebanese man was arrested Saturday after he
allegedly threatened to hijack a Royal Jordanian plane with 248
passengers as it flew to the Thai capital Bangkok, police said.

Airline security officials on flight RJ184 detained Jamal Ahmed Seif
after it landed in Bangkok from Jordan's capital Amman on Saturday
afternoon, said Thai Tourist Police Lieut. Arthit Chartchairattavej.

Mr. Seif, who is said to be in his 30s, was kept on the plane, which
was bound for Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur and was expected to be
sent back to Jordan early Sunday, he added.

"This guy suddenly jumped up from his seat and said something about
hijacking," Mr. Arthit said, citing Thailand's Special Branch Police.

What exactly was "foiled"?
How was a drunk with no weapons going to hijack the plane?
