Gregory Morrow wrote: GREAT site update BTW, Miguel.... Thanks! I'd been meaning to do it forever; the old one was starting to bore even me. Hopefully I'll get around to keeping it more up to date now... miguel Yes, it *is* great. I am very much interested in photography. Just a hobby, nothing professional. I have been meaning to put up a site to show my pics. Your site is giving me encouragement -- though I wish you had mentioned which photo was taken with which camera. Nowadays I am experimenting with Epic Stylus about which I have heard a lot but haven't seen many example photos online. I intend to put my photos online just to show what the tiny camera can do ... ah, I digress. Coming back to the point, you have a nice site up there, good work. -HS -- ---------------------- X ---------------------- Remove all underscores from my email address to get the correct one. Since Toronto is Canada's largest city, it has the largest Asian population, if you include outlying areas like Markham and Scarborough. Calgary , had a pop of 943,310 with 41,575 Chinese If you include south Asian then the numbers are even higher |

I am sure it is Vancouver. The Chinese immigration when Hong Kong was returned to China was enormous. Vancouver had the second largest Chnatown outside of China even before the influx. SF is first. Now when you look thru the Phone Book it is amazing the number of Chinese entries. They are great folks and citizens who have changed Vancouver for the better for over a hundred years.. |

Nothing like what you see in Vancouver or San Francisco. The traditional Chinatown in Vancouver is rather small and is shrinking and rather grubby. Chinese restaurants and shops have sprung up all over the city and other municipalities. |

Oh yes they do! http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/demo28a.htm Might be new. No, they've been asking about ethnic origin for a very long time. Can;t remember how I filled out the lats one but they used to ask what yur "mother tongue" was. They still do. Ethnic origin is on the long form, which is distributed to 1 household in 5. Mother tongue is on both the long and the short (which goes to the other 4 out of 5 homes) forms. My GF has been answering "english" since she moved out though her parents and all her forebears are german speaking, The Statistics Canada definition of mother tongue is "first language spoken and still understood". So if your girlfriend's first words were "Entschulding Sie, bitte" and she still understands this, she shoud be answering German, even if English is now the only language she uses regularly. There are other language-related questions on the long form only, about the language most often spoken at home, and knowledge of official and other languages. Tom Box or Toronto, ON, Canada |
