Are you going to tell us exactly what happened to you at Heathrow? I've used
all the London Airports, except Luton, Stansted and Southend, many times,
without ever having had a problem.

It's exhausting

as is any large airport where you land(/TO) at the far end of a pier.

This is just down to luck. It can happen at FRA, for example

and apparently has no water fountains,

it does now

just machines
requiring English coins,

and the shuttle buses between terminals in the airport in New York only accept
dollars. Somebody had to lend/give me the fare because there was nowhere to
change money in the terminal that European incoming flights used.

Revenge for Heathrow, perhaps! 8-)

Just consistent with Heathrow, :-)

I grumble about the size of O'Hare in Chicago, but there are water
fountains.

If you feel that way, it might be best not to drive. I was in Sweden
when they switched from driving on the left to driving on the right. It
was not too chaotic. There's no truth to the story that even license
plates did it on Saturday and odds the following Sunday.

I believe that contrary to dire predictions, deaths and injuries on the
roads actually dropped.

Perhaps drivers were nervous and thus more alert?

I don't know why you have singled out LHR for not having water fountains
just because American airports do.

IME most European ones don't, it isn't (wasn't) just London

I may not be a typical traveller, but the availability or otherwise of water
fountains has never figured at all in my evaluation of Airports. Has Erilar
even flown into, or out of Geneva. There is a GIGANTIC water fountain quite
near the Airport.

+1

I was going to recommend the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, but I
know how
she feels about the French.

Woodrow Wilson spent a lot of time there, but the US Senate refused to
ratify his Treaty.

It must have been a major problem until all the RH drive cars ended up in scrap
yards or were exported to UK.

No that's the interesting thing - for years all cars made in Sweden had
been left-hand drive vehicles, for export of course, and presumably in
anticipation of the inevitable changeover.

Not one of my goals. I!ve only been in one Swiss airports, and that was
Zurich on departure, so I did have coins and don't remember hunting for a
free drink.(Ihad flown INto FRA that trip)

Maybe other airports I've been through are more efficient so I don't get
stuck for long periods where there are none or there are only machines
requiring a kind of coinage I don't have with me. You may not have
noticed, but cash machines don't dispense coins.

was there really nowhere you could change a note into coins

I do this regularly when a bank machine only dispenses the local equivalent
of 50 pound notes and I know that (e.g.) the local bus driver isn't going to
be too happy when I try and pay him with it.

You bought drinks from a machine with Euros in Swiss Franc land?

I normally have Euro coins left over from a previous trip. Since Zurich
was the end of my Swiss visit, I had some coins.

The place to go for free drinks at Zurich airport used to be the Swiss Air
business class lounge.
