My best guess (and its only a guess), is that you are talking about a
display of flight combinations involving 1 or more stops. I suspect
that Delta's system limits their display to combinations with the most
efficient (direct/shortest) routes, while other systems such as Orbitz,
allow for a greater number of combinations of segments resulting in
a display that includes flights with very indirect or lengthy stops.

I've found that it is sometimes possible to get a greater variety of
flight combinations by manually entering each segment of a multi-
segment trip in the reservation table, and booking them individually.

Orbitz does not filter duplicate codeshares. Delta does. So, for
example, a Continental flight from JFK to CLE to LAX will show up as
both as a CON flight and a DAL flight on Orbitz. It will no show up
at all on Delta.com . Delta.com will only list flights where at least
one of the legs is really flown by Delta or its commuter affiliates.

It's also a lot easier to navigate through the Orbitz site to find
flights that optimize price and schedule than it is to do the same
with the Delta site. I've found Delta and Northwest provide the worst
sites of any US carrier for really displaying all possible options
when selecting "by fare" or "by schedule". It's almost to the point
that they are intentionally misleading in that they seem to only show
red-eye's and 4-6am flights for "by fare" and only the "full fare"
options fo "by schedule". There's really no middle ground for those
of us who are willing to pay an extra $10 or $20 over the deep
discount fares (as opposed to $100 or $200) to fly out of a convenient
airport at a convenient time.

I do wish that sites would allow some sort of feature that would
allow you the ability to define "functionally the same price" such
as a +/- kinda feature or something. Because yes, being able to
sort through by schedule, a bunch of fares that are very close in
price would be nice.
