Default Christchurch to Greymouth

I realise this is the Tranzalpine route and train is probably easier, though
more expensive.
Is the bus route as scenic as the train?

I did both the Tranzalpine and the drive last September and actually
preferred the drive. More opportunity to stop and admire the view,

I'd say both are very scenic. In the train you actually miss out on
some scenery because you are in a tunnel - especially the Otira Gorge
between Arthur's Pass and Otira. That part is spectacular both for the
scenery, and the engineering required to put the road in.

Yes - the train ride is boosted through marketing, but car or bus are as
good.
