Well, Andrew Cuomo will be the next governor of New York state. He was
probably the best choice but I couldn't bring myself to vote for him. I
still blame him for the death of our newsgroups. Sure r.t.c has managed
to stay busy, but that is a rarity now. I'm sure we lost hundreds (at
least) of participants and occasional readers here too.

If you are not familiar with this, here's a 2 year old + story about
what happened:

Read the first couple of comments too. Good for a small chuckle.

Yes, I refused to vote for him for a long time, I finally gave in when I
saw what losers the others were (but I probably should have picked the
lesser of the other evils). While his actions did not immediately effect
RTC, the resulting lack of interest in newsgroups (once the most popular
alt. groups were removed) led to Verizon and other ISP's eventually
dropping their newsgroup service "due to lack of interest". All because
some spammers posted inappropriate stuff on an off-topic newsgroup and
no one in the AG's office bothered to understand how things actually
worked. The winners were the ISP's who wanted to get rid of newsgroups
to cut their costs and were given an excuse to do so.

While I was willing to give Andrew a chance it didn't take too long
before he made my mind up for me. As soon as He announced his run his
first order of business was to go see and coddle Al Sharpton the Thug.
He didn't do a thing to Rangel or the other cheats either. So there you
have it, heez a chip off the ole block. Too bad Carl was too wacky.

Expect more new taxes on clothing, Fuel & Yes Travel.
I wonder if he will call up his fathers Tax Police who follow people
around to see if they're going shopping in tax free states & then
photographing their Lic Plate. Maybe there will be one on the next
cruise you're on, they'll call him a Security Marshall but instead of a
Gun He'll have a camera & calculator on him.

ISP's began dropping Usenet before Cuomo's campaign against Usenet. My
newsgroup and email ISP dropped it a year or so before Cuomo began
asking ISP's to drop Usenet and AOL dropped it a couple of years before
that. Many usenet users were migrating to web forums and other groups
that had some form of moderation as many got tired of the trolls and
flame wars. Cuomo definitely hastened the decline along though giving
cover to the major cable ISP's to drop newsgroups with his bogus claims
about Usenet. If I lived in New York state I would not have voted for
him.
