The MasiaMara Reserve in September
I've found on the internet that the migration is now over and the
large herds have arrived at Kichwa Tembo.. Does this mean they are concentrated in this specific area or scattered throughout the Mara ? If I'm camping near the Sekenani Gate, will the game drives actually get me to see the herds? Or will I see just the game that is resident? Thanks for you response. |

The migrating herds normally stay in the Mara, both within the Reserve and in the lands around it, until October. http://www.mcdcwain.freeserve.co.uk/migration.htm Reports are that these are the largest numbers of wildebeest seen in the past few years. More importantly, if there a million of them there, you will never see more than perhaps 30,000 at any one time. And, 30,000 looks like a million. The migration is never really 'over' - though August through September is a time when the herds come to rest in the Mara.. just as they do in the early part of the year in the southeastern Serengeti. |
