From the article:

"He notes with pride that customer surveys consistently give cruises a
satisfaction rating of 98%, while resorts average 85%."

Could it be that resorts don't have staff members dedicated to telling
their customers (repeatedly) how they should fill out the surveys?

Nah.

Considering that the staff is not in the room forcing the passenger to fill
out the comment card the way they want it, no. Most major cruiselines have
approval rates in the 90% range. CCL is just the highest and has the highest
repeaters. The entire article is very informative and exclusively to Anne
Campbell and Cruisemates.

I will grant you that point. It is also done on all the major mainstream
lines so you cannot single out just one and the fact is that the staff
really does read the comment cards and their employment and promotions and
demotions are often dependant on these reports. We have always been honest
with out comments and praise those that deserve it, leave those that are
just doing their jobs out of it and occasionally make a statement about some
staffer or something on the ship that does not please us. We think that is
important so that they can fix what is wrong and provide a better product
which benefits us all. The bottom line is the number of repeat customers and
CCL does have the highest rate of repeats so they are doing something right
anyway. My goal is to try every line we possibly can so as to be better able
to make comparisons. Unfortunately I do not see us having the funds to do
some of the more expensive lines so we are sticking to the mainstream ones
and usually a ROS in order to cruise as much as our income allows.

Every cruise I have ever been on, the cabin steward has noted to us that
"management reads these reviews (about me)." 90% of people are not going

to
write a bad review about an individual and feel responsibility for someone
losing their job especially a third-worlder.

The system is skewed, no doubt about it.

Oh jeez, I didn't even notice the article was on Cruisemates. OK, I'll
make it easy. You're right. Bob Dickinson and Anne Campbell are gods.
Cruisemates is the best place on the internet to buy a cruise. Happy?

What does this tell you about the typical cruiser?

"From the beginning, Dickinson believed that Carnival ¡V and the entire
cruise industry, for that matter ¡V had one main competitor: Las Vegas
(today he adds Orlando)."

Our room steward definitely got a less than glowing review. And our
waiters got raves.

Jim, how do you know Carnival has the "highest rate of repeats"?
