Default Anybody going to pick up the STL-MCI service?

WN flies STL/MCI about 6xday. Expansion?

In shrinking the STL hub effective November 1, 2003, AA is ending 27
nonstop routes. Included is the service connecting Missouri's two
largest cities -- Is any carrier planning to add this to their
services? The only alternatives to driving are probably the ailing
Amtrak and Greyhound.

The three airlines I feel (in no particular order) might be interested
in this route a

1. Midwest Airlines -- This carrier already has a mini-hub at MCI.
Like most of the industry, they are cash-strapped and taking on such a
route might not be wise at this time. Of course, it could prove to be
money maker.

2. US Airways -- Currently has a mini-hub at MCI via Air Midwest
commuter service. Options might include adding commuter service
between MCI and STL using Air Midwest. All current US services to STL
use regional jets via commuter carriers -- MCI could be a tag on these
services. Current services from hubs to MCI are all 737s except for
some services from CLT that use regional jets. Since regional jets are
used on both CLT-STL-CLT and CLT-MCI-CLT routes, perhaps US could
schedule CLT-STL-MCI-CLT and CLT-MCI-STL-CLT routings.

3. Great Plains -- Already adding service October 7 to Saint Louis (at
MidAmerica) running OKC-TUL-BLV-TUL-OKC more than three weeks before
AA eliminates STL-OKC and STL-TUL services. Although ZO does not serve
MCI, it might be worthwhile for them to do so and operate
OKC-TUL-MCI-BLV-TUL-OKC and OKC-TUL-BLV-MCI-TUL-OKC at some point in
the future.

Any comments or other ideas?
