Default Need help setting up travel route

Since the demise of Ansett there is no longer a Star Alliance carrier based
in Australia. This means that you will have to pay extra for any travel
within Oz.

I'll be going on a round-the-world trip soon, using the Star Alliance
network of airlines for this as they gave me the best deal/conditions.

I'm almost done, but I'm stuck when it comes to Australia and possibly
New Zealand as well. The problem is that they don't have flights that go
everywhere, and for places that they go I might have to go back again to
places I've been before to be able to get the a lot of wasted air
mileage.

OK, the trip up till Singapore is fine.
From there I was planning to go to Bali, Indonesia (Denpasar airport)
and continue to Australia. But in order to do that I actually have to
take a flight back to Singapore and then go directly to Australia, so I
might have to skip Bali although I would like to see some of Indonesia
while being in the area...

As for Australia itself I've decided to concentrate on the east coast
and in addition see Ayer's rock. Out of Australia I'll be going to New
Zealand, wanting to see Queenstown and going up to Auckland (actually
I'm open for ideas here, but I'm definitely going to see those two
places).
From New Zealand I'll be going to Osaka, Japan.

So..... if I don't want to waste too many airmiles, buy bus-tickets
going back and forth too many times, what would be the best route for
seeing those places I've mentioned while at the same time getting to New
Zealand? What would be the best place to land in (coming from Singapore)
to start the Australia trip?
