HK is part of China, isn't it ?
Will start processing soon the HK photos and will create a photo gallery
inside the China section. Would anybody object to this ? Is HK China ? The alternative would be to place HK as a separate country on the same level as China, Thailand, Malaysia etc. -- Alfred Molon http://www.molon.de/Galleries.htm - Photos from China, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal, Egypt, Germany, Austria, Prague, Budapest, Singapore and Portugal |

Post-1997 Hong Kong (Xiang1 Gang3) is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People's Republic of China. Taiwan is the one where there won't be agreement from all. One of my mentees at uni was from HK - she felt Chinese (Cantonese) and certainly didn't mind HK being viewed as part of China, though she did share the common anger that the regime in Bejing has disposed of certain liberties in HK. Ralph |

The alternative would be to place HK as a separate country on the same level as China, Thailand, Malaysia etc. -- Would you put Puerto Rico as part of the USA? Before the turnover, would you have put HK as part of the UK? No one would object. HK is a special administrative region of China. So either way is fine. But usually peopel still think of HK as separate. In terms of culture, it is still pretty different from China. Considering that a large part of HK citizens went to HK to escape China, the feeling is understandable. But what kind of liberties are we talking about? HK citizens couldn't vote when they were under British rules. Now they can. Ralph |
