Your critism is quite unfair to the Hong Kong people because both
English and Mandarin are foreign languages to Hong Kong people, the languages of their rulers. We did not receive any proper Mandarin education in primary and secondary schools. How can you expect us to speak good Mandarin? However we do have a good command of written Chinese. And you have a wrong perception towards English. English is not only the language of our former colonial ruler, but also a global language that we should possess. Hong Kong people are willing to learn Mandarin because we are doing business with mainlanders. It just takes time. Also, I think it's tragic if one abandons his or her own language and pick up other languages solely because of economics and political reasons. Yup, I totally agree. You got the point. I bet you live in HK, isn't it? -- Stefano aka Senbee Norimaki ICQ# 4243376 |
