Your critism is quite unfair to the Hong Kong people because both
English and Mandarin are foreign languages to Hong Kong people, the
languages of their rulers. We did not receive any proper Mandarin
education in primary and secondary schools. How can you expect us to
speak good Mandarin? However we do have a good command of written
Chinese. And you have a wrong perception towards English. English is
not only the language of our former colonial ruler, but also a global
language that we should possess. Hong Kong people are willing to learn
Mandarin because we are doing business with mainlanders. It just takes
time. Also, I think it's tragic if one abandons his or her own language
and pick up other languages solely because of economics and political
reasons.

Yeah, I live in Hong Kong. A typical Hong Kong youngster who has a
strong sense of Hong Kong core values and identity.
