SAN JUAN question
Since our ship won't arrive in port until 5:PM we need suggestions of
what to do at night. I have been told there is a casino within walking distance. Can anyone tell me about it? Where else could one go? Thanks for any tips. |

SAN JUAN question
How long time do you have there before boarding?
Old San Juan is beatiful, but I have only been there during the day and I don't know how safe it is to hang out there at night.. -- Mike www.uCruiser.com "Dory Samuels" wrote in message ... The last time, the cabbies were on strike. Make sure the city is at peace before you walk anywhere, not unlike Atlantic City on my first and only visit. I would bet on the casino being safe for you, if not for your money. I didn't worry about these things back when I was young enough to run or fight and too poor for a Rolex. Times change, don't ya know. Harry Cooper |

Thanks for any tips. Ships dock in two different places ... We were there when the Festival of San Sebastian was going on and the ship didn't dock in Old San Juan ... a pity as our hotel was 2 blocks away ... The other terminal isn't within walking distance to anything ... but Old San Juan isn't very big and even a non-walker like myself was able to easily go from the dock to near the castle ... I think the only casino within walking distance though is at the Sheraton ... Most of the better casinos are in the Condado Plaza area - a short cab ride away ... Cab fees are well regulated and published ... I don't know what else is open at night ... plenty of day time attractions ... but during the festival nightlife in Old San Juan was very lively ... people watching with all the music in the streets was enjoyable ... As far as safety goes, the police presence is extremely apparent ... Most of the problems I was told was with drunken young people getting into fights ... |

If at the Old San Pier, the Sheraton is almostly directly across from the pier and has a very small casino. Too crowded for my tastes. As others noted, the Condado district has much nicer casinos (La Concha resort, etc....) OSJ is very pretty, and I'd suggest a walking tour of the old city. The city is fairly safe, just act as prudently as you would in any strange city and you will be fine. Unfortunately the forts will be closed by the time you would get to see them--they are worthwhile if you ever return during daylight hours. Pete |
